When God Prunes

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every  branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches  that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.” John 15:1-2, (NLT)

I know that many of you have a passion for gardening and are in the middle of your gardening season.   I don’t so much enjoy growing things as much as I do consuming them.

Whether its fruits and vegetables or flowers it takes work, constant care and often times requires pruning.  Ouch!  As you know, pruning means cutting away or removing dead or living parts of a plant so as to increase fruit or flower production or improve the form.

As we want our plants to be more productive, God wants us to be more productive, more fruitful, and He wants us to improve so that we can be more effective for His kingdom.   So…long story short, it would mean that He would need to prune us.

Sometimes the pruning is getting us out of our comfort zone.   Most of the time, we don’t want to come out of the comfort zone, because we tend to like the smooth road.   But in reality, we need the bumps in the road to help us stay alert to fulfill our destination and calling.   Sometimes we just need to get out of our comfort zone. What if we actually got to participate in the pruning?

We are not plants, but children of God created with free will and so we often get to choose whether we are going to be challenged by getting out of our comfort zone or take the familiar road we’ve always taken.   What aspect of your purpose, destiny, calling, and promises might you be missing out on by never challenging yourself by  getting out of your comfort zone.

Remember, even if you are producing fruit, God wants to prune  you so you will produce even more.  People need to see Christ  living inside of you. They need to experience the delicious fruit  of the Spirit in your life.  This is how God is glorified. It’s true!

Jesus said through John 15:8,

“When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings glory to my Father.”

I don’t know about you, but I want to bring glory to our Father.  Do you?

Pastor George

Everyone needs a place to . . . Belong, Believe, Become

July 2016MILFORD MIAMI MINISTRY: As you know MMM is busy helping the underserved in the community with food and emergency money for bills. They are now offering spiritual help. When someone comes in to get help with physical needs, they are offered prayer and someone to just listen to their story. If any-one is interested in helping in this way, let Becky or Jana know. MMM is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-12, Wednesday from 6:30-8pm and 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 9-11.

WORD IN THE STREET: Thanks to all of you who were God’s hands and feet at the event on June 26! The Holy Spirit was present and the joy of the Lord was our strength. It was a hot day but a few clouds and shade helped out. The day was filled with a lot of laughter, kindness and love. There was food, water games, face painting, bubble making, kickball, corn hole and fire safety. We joined with others in the community to bring a fun event to the residents of Oakwood Apartments.

Here is a quote form an email that was received from the office manager at Oakwood:

” It is beyond words and I just want to thank you. I have a lot of faith in this community and have been doing my best within the position I have as their landlord/ property manager to better the community. It is very challenging at times to say the least. That being said the services, support and efforts that everyone has came together to provide for this community is truly hum-bling, encouraging and is like a breath of fresh air knowing everyone involved believes in this community like I do.”

The second Word in the Street of the summer will be on Sunday August 7 at Oakwood Apartments from 2-4pm.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: The Milford and Miami Township Police Departments, the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce and Target are partnering to host our  annual National Night Out on August 2nd from 6-9pm. National Night Out is a nationwide program designed to heighten crime awareness as well as strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships by bringing citizens, businesses and churches together.  We will be setting up a table, handing out cold water and popsicles. This a good opportunity to talk with people and let them know about our church. Last year over 4,000 people attended. It is located in the Target parking lot at River’s Edge.  Come and join what the Holy Spirit is doing in our community.  See Becky for any questions.

Desirae Partin passed her NCLEX exam!

“Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support. God has answered  and I am now Desirae Faith Partin RN BSN!” Praising God for this accomplishment!

No words can express how much I appreciate all that everyone did to let the children know about God’s unconditional love. There was a total

labor of love going on. The joy and excitement that was seen and felt was a witness to the love that God has for the least of these.

May God bless you!!

Do you play an instrument? Maybe guitar? Drums? Tambourine? Pennywhistle? Violin? Do you like to sing and worship? If so, the worship band would love to have you!

Please see Jana Slick, Kim Kirk or Zac Brown if you’re interested or would like more details.

GCI Pastor Honored for Community Work

Karl Reinagel, pastor of New Creation in Christ, GCI’s congregation in Ferguson, Missouri, was one of five pastors recently awarded the 2016 Faith Impact Award by the Nehemiah Program for their contributions in helping heal the wounds in the cities of Ferguson and Florissant in the aftermath of the highly publicized shooting that occurred in 2014.

The prestigious award (pictured below) was given to pastors, police, firefighters, educators and bankers. The award presentation was made by Ferguson’s mayor, Ev. Vivian Duddley, who thanked the honorees for “making a real difference in the community.”

New Creation church relocated to Ferguson after the racial tension to help bring healing to the community.
